ONE INNING AT A TIME
Founded in 2012, “One Inning at a Time Foundation’s” (OIAAT) goal is to educate the public and the medical profession about Neuroendocrine Tumor (NET) cancer and it’s prevention by early detection, and prompt, effective treatment. The mission of OIAAT is also to help maintain the quality of life, to promote healing, and to empower clients and families to be active participants in their fight against NET cancer as they approach this disease “One Inning at a Time”. OIAAT also provides financial support and assists clients and families in obtaining services and support.

HISTORY OF ONE INNING AT A TIME
Founded by Mary & Hap Rowan, “One Inning at a Time Foundation’s” existence came about after four years of Hap’s diagnosis and his subsequent treatments to battle Carcinoid (Neuro Endocrine Tumor) Cancer. Diagnosed in August of 2008, Hap, Mary and their family’s world came to a screeching halt that hot August afternoon as Hap was told he had advanced cancer of the liver and pelvic regions. The cancer had gone undetected in his body for 8-10 years as calculated by his doctors. This was just the beginning of 4 years of a very intense fight to overcome this evil disease. Three embolization of the liver and pelvic tumors, gave Hap the hope he needed to continue the fight with radiation and chemo therapies for 3 months. After scans showed no improvement or reduction to the tumors, Hap took a couple months off to try to heal his body. September of 2011 Hap’s scan showed that his tumor markers had again escalated as did the intensity and uptake of the 10 tumors in his liver and 4 pelvic tumors. Hap’s doctors took immediate action and Hap was able to qualify for a new trial being offered at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, the institution navigating his very rare cancer fight from day 1. Hap was placed on a Phase II trial of 2 experimental drugs not yet approved by the FDA. After 8 months of treatment on this trial, Hap experienced significant tumor size reduction. Although he experienced drammatic weight loss and a beat up body internally, his progress to date is nothing short of a miracle.

What are neuroendocrine tumors? Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) is the umbrella term for a group of unusual cancers which develop from cells in the diffuse endocrine system.
